Mining company are obliged to guarantee the respect of the obligations referred to the preservation of the territory where they operate.

Currently Italy does not have a specific law regulating the subject matter, therefore, the rules are provided for by the EU legislation.

Companies are bound to respect EU laws concerning the protection of the environment and in case they are found in breach of one of them, once the extraction process is finished, local authorities are entitled to ask for compensation of the damages occurred to the territory. Therefore, public authorities ask for a bond guaranteeing that the laws concerning the obligation to respect the environment is respected during the extraction process.
